What we are seeking

Literary fiction, speculative fiction, systems fiction, civic procedurals, dystopian novellas, and cross-genre work with strong prose and a clear human center.

We are especially interested in novels and novellas that examine institutions through character and consequence rather than speeches or simple villains.

What to send

  • A brief query letter in the email body.
  • A one-page synopsis.
  • The first 30 pages as a DOCX or PDF attachment.
  • A short author biography and publication history, if any.

Use the subject line: Submission — Title — Author.

Length and format

Novellas and novels are preferred. As a working range, submit projects between 25,000 and 100,000 words. Double-space manuscripts, use a readable 12-point font, and number the pages.

Policies

  • No reading fee.
  • Simultaneous submissions are permitted. Notify us promptly if the work is accepted elsewhere.
  • Previously self-published or commercially published manuscripts are not currently considered.
  • Do not submit manuscripts generated substantially by artificial intelligence.
  • Submission does not transfer any rights. Rights are discussed only if an offer is made.

Response time

Allow up to 12 weeks for an initial response. We cannot provide editorial feedback on every submission. A request for the full manuscript is not an offer of publication.

Before sending

Read at least one Residuum Press title or review the catalog to understand the press. A submission does not need to resemble an existing book, but it should belong beside the work already published.
